In order to run VMware Workstation 17 properly, you must install the required packages to build the VMware kernel modules: VMware Workstation can be easily installed on Debian by downloading the required bundle and executing the following commands:Ĭhmod +x VMware-Workstation-Full-17.0.0-20800274.x86_64.bundle rvice restart fail after running apt upgrade on Debian Sid.GCC version is not found null after VMware Player 16 successful install on Debian Sid.VMware guest additions install on a Debian guest.Running vmware-netcfg (Virtual Network Editor) with VMware Player.Physical Machines to VMware/Hyper-V to VMware using VMware Converter.VMware Workstation Player can easily be installed by downloading the relevant bundle and then running as root eg sudo sh VMware-Player-15.5.6-16341506.x86_64.bundle on a an vmplayer is useful for running a single VM guest. It does emulate various hardware devices like network, graphics and audio cards. ![]() VMware is not a true emulator, it doesn't emulate a CPU like Bochs does, it wraps CPU commands around. You can use it for example to convert your physical installations or other virtual machines types to a VMware virtual environment.Ĭommercial products like VMware Workstation Pro is available for Linux. VMware vCenter Converter is zero-cost and allows you to convert your physical OS to a virtual environment OS. Both Windows and a Linux versions are available.įor Free Software alternatives see our SystemVirtualization section. It allows you to run any x86 compatible OS in a kind of 'sandbox' - inside the VMware virtual machine you can run other operating systems like Windows, FreeBSD or some other version of Linux. All i know is that it says a device using a mac address that is NOT my VM's mac address is currently occupying 172.16.1.1.VMware is a proprietary and commercial PC virtualization solution running on amd64 compatible CPUs ( supported CPUs), since version 11. I am running a DNS server off of this machine, as well as AD DS but I guess I dont know enough about it to be certain what could be using it. The only thing that boggles me is that this is the only VM running. In my dns server i get an event that occurs which is a 408 error, it cant open socket for address 17.16.1.1 At this point i am convinced it has to be something going on with the VMware network. I have treid multiple things recomended for windows such as regedit and clearing the DNS cache so on and soforth. I am not using local DHCP service from my router, doesn't seem to make a difference anways since i am statically assigning my servers ip and running a dhcp within it. ![]() I am getting an address completely outside of the subnet when i assign 172.16.1.1 which is 169.254.163.88, this does not happen when i assign 172.16.1.2 or anything else (.254 is my gateway). Another thing worth mentioning is that this VM is operating on a VMnet NAT. One issue however is whenever i statically assign that address in ipv4 properties it tells me that there is a duplicate IP address. I have a windows server 2008 R2 Standard 圆4 running and it is supposed to have an IP address of 172.16.1.1/24 Basically I have a server running on a VM on my Home Computer, a couple other classmates work with me and we remote into it from school or whereever to work on it. This is actually for a Server2008 admin class I am taking.
